Historic animal care company eyes expansion with Yorkshire Bank's seven figure fund

Yorkshire Bank support is enabling a Lincoln-based animal care product supplier embark on its growth plans.

Battle, Hayward & Bower Ltd has secured a seven figure funding package from Yorkshire Bank to expand into new domestic and international markets.

The deal was delivered by David Burgess, director in Yorkshire Bank’s Lincoln-based specialist and acquisition finance team and Andy Cole, director in the Bank’s asset based lending team.

Founded in 1832, the business distributes animal health, equestrian and pet care products. It also operates an export business focused on the manufacture of own brand products including Battles and Lincoln.

Formerly a family business, current managing director Jim Bowen led a management buyout in 2006. Battle, Hayward & Bower has since invested significantly in its manufacturing facilities as it supplies over 11,000 products.

Jim Bowen said: “We’re extremely proud of our long history, achieved by our dedication to innovation and providing the best possible customer service.

“Over the past ten years we’ve invested heavily in developing our manufacturing resource. With a great range of products and enhanced capability, we’re now seeking to target new customers, especially in export markets where there is increasing demand among livestock owners for our brand names.

“We’re pleased that Yorkshire Bank recognised the growth opportunity available to us and supports our expansion plans. We look forward to working in partnership with its knowledgeable team.”

Ian Hardman, head of SME Cashflow Finance at Yorkshire Bank, added: “Jim and his management team are to be congratulated for their hard work and commitment to developing and growing this historic company.

“After taking steps to improve their manufacturing processes Battle, Hayward & Bower Ltd. is in a strong position to take advantage of the increasing demand overseas for their own brand products.

“We look forward to supporting the business and helping the management team to achieve their growth aspirations.”
