Yorkshire festive focus: Tina Carr, Brocco on the Park

As Christmas is only weeks away, and the businesspeople of Yorkshire are preparing to hang up their stockings, Bdaily is catching up with the region’s business leaders to reflect on the highlights of 2016 and how they plan on spending the holiday period.

For the series’ next instalment, we are speaking with Tina Carr, owner of boutique Sheffield hotel Brocco on the Park.

What were the three biggest highlights for your business in 2016?

  • Being awarded an ‘Oscar’ of the hotel industry – Cesar award – ‘City Hotel Of The Year’ by the Good Hotel Guide.
  • Being just one of three Sheffield hotels to be included as a new entry in the Michelin Guide 2017!
  • Being the top ten highlight for Fiona Duncan (Sunday Times, Travel Writer) as ‘Best in Class’ for hotel design.

What are your business’ goals going into 2017?

For the Brocco Kitchen to be recognised for the amazing food it produces – our incredibly kitchen team work so hard and it does not go unappreciated.

Anything you/your business would have done differently over the past year?

We are always learning lessons; being only two years old it is a constant learning curve with plenty of twists and bends along the way. We would have introduced our evening menu earlier in the year as it has made a huge different to the business and given our customers another reason to return.

Why do you think Yorkshire is a great place to do business?

It is full of personable people - including incredibly helpful suppliers – who famously don’t take themselves too seriously. It’s a great place for conversation and to form networks.

Any other company/companies in the region stand out for you?

All of the up-and-coming cocktail bars which are appearing across the region. The Leeds Friends of Ham concept is amazing and I’d love to see it brought to Sheffield!

What does Yorkshire want to see happen in the future/next year?

I’d absolutely love to see more support and kindness towards the fantastic range of independent businesses that exist within the region.

What individual goals do you want to achieve personally/professionally in 2017?

Professionally, I want to continue to develop Brocco Kitchen and the local community feel. I would love for it to be the destination of choice from breakfast right through to lunch and evening meals…and somewhere that people choose to have their celebrations of any size!

Personally – I’d love a five day week…and maybe even a holiday!

How to you unwind after a stressful day at work?

I’d happily spend time in a sauna to de-stress… Though it’s more likely you’ll find me with a glass of wine watching Netflix.

What would be the perfect Christmas gift for you?

A lie down and someone looking after me for a change!
