Work Experience Partnership Fosters Learning

The Visual Impairment Team from the Learning Development Centre in Scunthorpe are providing access to work experience for visually impaired service users at Amber House.

Working in partnership with Amber House the Visual Impairment Team support service users to reach their full potential by providing work within their busy office environment.

Most routine office jobs are accessible, with filing, shredding, answering the telephone, and making the odd refreshment being the most helpful task usually carried out.

Jane Sweeting, registered manager at Amber House says: “Enabling our service users and teaching them life skills is always a top priority for us. We are very grateful to the Visual Impairment Team for providing our service users with the opportunity to learn new skills in a different environment – it looks like shredding documents is quickly becoming the activity of choice.”

Amber House is a small provider of residential, personal, day, respite care and supported living for people with learning disabilities and those affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorder 52 weeks a year for adults over the age of 18. They are dedicated to improving the opportunities available for young adults in their care, especially improving the understanding and awareness of their work in the wider community.
