Expedia joins Snapchat, Facebook and Google in expanding its London presence
Online travel company Expedia has announced it is to significantly expand its footprint in London as part of its worldwide expansion plans.
The travel giant has agreed to extend its lease on the Angel Building until 2030 and will also be taking an additional 138,000 sq ft at the property as it embarks on a recruitment drive to expand its headcount in the capital.
It comes after a string of global tech firms have committed themselves to the capital in the last six months, with Snapchat, Google and Facebook all signing on for larger offices and expanded workforces.
Johan Svanstrom, who is President of Hotels.com brand, part of the Expedia group commented: “Angel and Islington has proven to be a fantastic location for our London-based employees. As a company, we see a lot of opportunity in London given the continued growth of ecommerce and technology industries and the strong pool of talent in the city.
“We look forward to expanding the presence of our Expedia group of businesses here in years to come.”
Meanwhile, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has hailed the move which he said reaffirms the capital’s reputation as a European tech hub.
He said: “London is the tech capital of Europe and continues to be a leading destination for US tech companies with a global footprint. I am delighted that Expedia has pledged its long term commitment to London, helping to generate new jobs and growth for the capital.
“Their expansion offers further proof that London remains open for business, talent and investment.”
