One hits the big screen for homeless hub

Integrated communications agency, One, has delivered an outdoor advertising campaign for homeless hub, Street Support, in order to raise awareness of the organisation’s services.

Live on the 63 sqm Forrest Media CityScreen overlooking Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens, the creative, which was developed pro-bono, has two themes, one of which can be activated in severe weather conditions.

The digital billboard, which airs six 10-second adverts every minute, attracts an audience of almost 600,000 people within a two-week period.

The first creative theme aims to ensure homelessness doesn’t go unnoticed by encouraging people to visit the Street Support website or download the app. The second piece is specifically for homeless people and will be activated when the temperature drops in order to provide emergency accommodation information.

Peter Davis, creative director at One, said: “Piccadilly Gardens is an area with an increased number of rough sleepers, so this digital poster is in perfect position to reach them and make a positive impact.

“Our ‘Homeless, cold and need help?’ advert is only triggered to run when the weather reaches zero degrees. It’s an innovative use of that media and perfect to let homeless people know where they can head for help when it’s freezing.”

“Street Support unities all the charities and voluntary groups that support homeless people, so we couldn’t have wished for a better opportunity to raise the profile of what it does and do our bit to support the organisation in its bid to end homelessness.”

Prior to the launch of the outdoor advertising creative, One delivered a social media campaign, #FeetOnTheStreet, which culminated in the production of a video highlighting the shocking statistics in relation to homelessness in Manchester, which can be viewed here.

Gary Dunstan, co-founder of Street Support, added: “We’re delighted to have the backing from One and they’ve been outstanding. Their flair and creativity has shone through with everything they have done for us since last September and thanks to them our website page views have exceeded 200,000. The video has been seen more than 19,000 times via Facebook and Twitter and we couldn’t have wished for that kind of exposure.”

The Manchester CityScreen is managed by Forrest Outdoor Media which provided the advertising space free of charge.
