Deliveroo is launching its Editions service UK-wide and claims it will create 1,000 jobs
On-demand food delivery business Deliveroo has revealed it has begun to roll-out its Editions concept across the UK, allowing brands and eateries to provide food deliveries without the need for a full-blown restaurant.
The kitchen-only service was recently trialled in London and will now launch in 10 UK cities, aiming to bring delivery from both big-name brands and independent restaurants to areas that lack a physical presence.
Deliveroo claim that the new service will create 1,000 new jobs across the country and that it plans to launch the service internationally.
A key selling point of its Deliveroo Editions concept is that the data collated from order numbers and revenue can then be fed back to its restaurant partners, who are then better able to gauge demand for a bricks and mortar outlet in areas that they might not previously have considered.
Speaking to City AM, Founder Will Shu, commented: ““I think that’s especially relevant for people starting off. For young entrepreneurs… who don’t necessarily have the capital to start a restaurant this is a way to show banks that the business can generate revenue, that there’s a customer base. I think it’s a really good starting point for entrepreneurs.
“And for the more established guys, it costs £500,000 to £1m of capital expenditure to open a high-street restaurant. They’re not going to want to do that everywhere.
“So this is a good way to go into areas they wouldn’t otherwise go. And then, if it goes really well, they can decide to open a restaurant as well.”
