Engineering firm SES appointed to multi-million pound Tameside development

National engineering firm SES Engineering Services has won a £5.7m contract to work on a mixed-use scheme under construction in Ashton-under-Lyne.

The North West office of SES will work closely with contractor Carillion as it delivers phase two of Vision Tameside, a development creating an advanced skills and joint public services centre for Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council (TMBC) and Tameside College.

The contemporary V-shaped property, set to replace the council’s former building, will comprise more than 163,000 sq ft across four storeys.

TMBC will take around 64,000 sq ft at the scheme, while Tameside College will use 75,300 sq ft as education space for its vocational subjects.

A further 12,300 sq ft will serve as retail space to be occupied by value retailer Wilko.

SES’ work on the development will include include the installation of variant refrigerant flow heating and cooling systems, building management systems, drainage systems and power distribution.

Steve Joyce, SES’ business director for the North, said: “I believe our extensive knowledge and experience of working at BIM Level 2 and our ability to work effectively with a number of stakeholders and their professional teams to tight deadlines were influencing factors in the decision to appoint SES.

“Additionally, with the fact that we are a local company which uses the local supply chain at every opportunity reflects TMBC’s ongoing commitment to work with local businesses.”

SES’ project partners include Ryder Architecture; civil and structural design consultants TPS Consult; and mechanical, electrical and plumbing consultancy Hannan Associates.
