Bristol pupils gain insight into the construction industry
Budding future housebuilders from local schools in Bristol have had the chance to see just what it takes to create a brand new community, thanks to a summer work experience project with Barratt Homes.
Pupils from the Castle School in Thornbury and Downend School spent two weeks of their summer holidays finding out more about working for the five star housebuilder.
Construction director Anthony Palmer said the pupils got to find out about the variety of roles and skills involved in building five star homes - and they had the chance to question construction professionals on site.
“We were delighted by the response we had from the pupils and hope they gained a new insight into the varied roles available at Barratt Homes both out on site and in head office,” said Anthony.
“We are always looking for the next generation of construction staff and projects like this are a great way for the pupils to see how the business works and we hope to see some of them back at Barratt in the future.”
Their site experience included a visit to Park Farm where Barratt Homes is building a new phase of homes. “The development is at a particularly interesting stage because the homes are really beginning to take shape, so it was great that the pupils were able to see homes at different stages of the build process.”
Andy Bethell, deputy headteacher at The Castle School in Thornbury said, “It is always extremely useful for pupils to gain a real insight into the workplace and it’s great that companies such as Barratt Homes can offer this kind of opportunity.”
