Burberry to fill 400 roles in Leeds city centre as new office opens

On Monday (September 9th), Burberry opened a brand new business services centre in Leeds city centre.

The office, located at 6 Queen Street, brings together UK and EMEIA shared service teams from Finance, HR and Procurement, as well as some Customer Service and IT roles.

Taking over four floors of the office building, Burberry Business Services (BBS) will eventually house around 400 staff members in the city centre. This is 100 more jobs than Burberry initially announced back in May.

A recruitment drive is currently underway, with Burberry planning to have most roles filled by the end of 2018. A number of the roles will be transferred from Horseferry House in London, whilst there will also be newly created jobs.

Earlier this year, Burberry halted plans to invest £50m in a new manufacturing and weaving facility in South Bank, Leeds. Back in July, it was confirmed that Burberry allowed the building lease on Temple Works to lapse.

The fashion brand, which currently operates sites at Castleford and Cross Hills in Yorkshire, is still debating whether to work on further land it owns within the South Bank area.

Julie Brown, CFO and COO at Burberry, said: “We are pleased to announce the opening of Burberry Business Services today in Leeds, deepening our ties with Yorkshire and reinforcing our commitment to the UK.”
