This Brixton-based restaurant is opening a new wine store next Monday
English restaurant, Salon, will expand its offering this month with the opening of the Salon Wine Store.
Based in Brixton Village market, the venue is set to stock a wide range of artisan wines that guest will be able to drink in store, take home or bring into Salon’s downstairs bar and restaurant, for a small corkage fee.
Founded by Nicholas Balfe in 2012, Salon opened as a pop-up above a cheese shop in Brixton Market. Following a string of successful events, the restaurant secured a permanent fixture in the area in 2013.
With a focus on using local produce wherever possible, Nicholas boasts ingredients from suppliers as close as within a two-mile radius.
Working closely with suppliers Indigo, Les Caves de Pyrene and Under the Bonnet Wines, Salon have curated a collection of over 100 sparkling, red and white wines for the new venture. All wine stocked will focus on low intervention, small scale producers who farm their parcels and hand harvest their grapes.
Kitchen staff have also created a menu to accompany the new wine list, with dishes including smoked aubergine, black onion and seed crackers and slow cooked rabbit ragu with house made pappardelle.
Looking ahead to 2018, Salon will also be inviting wine experts and producers to the store for talks, tastings and collaborations.
Nicholas Balfe, Founder, said: “We’ve always been really into our low intervention wines here at Salon, it goes hand in hand with our ethos for sustainable cooking.
“The Wine Store is an opportunity for us to extend our offering, introducing some even more exciting wines to the list and hosting some fun collaborations.”
Interior designer Finch Munro, of Finch London, assisted with the design of the venue, which is complete with a marine blue colour scheme and exposed cellar lining walls.
The Salon Wine Store will open on Monday 13th November in Brixton.
