North East company expands to meet demand

A growing North East company has moved to a new, bigger head office to enable it to keep up with the demand for its UK-wide building compliance services.

Eton Environmental Group has bought premises at Trinity Court, on Darlington’s Faverdale Industrial Estate.

It’s 20-strong head office team have moved from their old office above Majestic Wine on Grange Road in Darlington.

The move was necessary to allow the company to continue to grow, having recently introduced a range of new services.

Eton was set up by husband and wife team, Joanna and Christian Shaefer, in 2004, initially to provide asbestos survey and management services. It then added fire risk assessments, energy performance certificates and legionella risk assessments to these services, and recently also introduced pigeon guano removal and lead paint surveys.

The company, which employs 55 staff in total, provides these services to clients across the UK, including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Willmott Dixon, Pizza Hut, River Island, Safe Style, The Crown Estate, Capita and CBRE.

Eton Director Joanna Shaefer said: “We had outgrown our office in Grange Road and our new premises in Faverdale are three times the size.

“It provides more room for our head office staff, as well as our surveyors who visit regularly to drop off samples at our in-house laboratory and to receive new assignments.

“We also have satellite offices in Bury, Birmingham and Windsor but our Darlington head office is the real hub and having larger premises will enable us to continue the growth of the company.

“Asbestos is still a very large part of our business but we have diversified over the years and introducing new services like pigeon guano removal and lead painting surveying and testing is a good example of this.

“Even services that we have provided for a while, like fire risk assessments, have grown in demand, especially in the light of the Grenfell Tower fire.

“Businesses and organisations are now, more than ever, aware of the legal responsibilities they have to their tenants, staff or anyone else who enters a building they own, so as one of the UK’s leading building compliance companies, we are in a strong position to meet this demand.”
