Two ‘iconic Merseyside institutions’ team up in sponsorship deal
Ferry operator Mersey Ferries has signed up Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) as its first ever sponsorship partner.
The deal will see flags and posters promoting the airport and its offers featured at terminals and on the company’s vessels, including the Royal Iris.
Mersey Ferries’ digital channels, e-newsletters and website will also showcase LJLA to followers and visitors until the end of 2017.
Jonathan Lamkin, commercial development executive of Merseytravel, which owns and operates the ferries, said: “This is an incredibly important milestone for the Mersey Ferries.
“Deciding on our first sponsor was always going to be a difficult decision, but we’re so proud that it’s Liverpool John Lennon Airport.”
He continued: “It means two iconic Merseyside institutions really have come together. We’re proud to call the airport a partner of the ferries, and we’d love to see this as the start of an even stronger relationship between our respective organisations.”
Amanda Hanlon, the airport’s head of marketing and communications, commented: “As far as sponsorship opportunities go, there’s not many as iconic and popular as the famous Mersey Ferries.
“The ferries are a must-do for anyone travelling to or visiting the city from abroad – and with hundreds of thousands of visitors on board every single year, it’s a tremendous partnership for us to explore.”
She added: “We’re excited to see where this collaboration with the ferries takes us, but we’re certainly hoping it’s up!”
According to Merseytravel, the Mersey Ferries are currently the region’s most popular paid-for attraction.
Hundreds of thousands of passengers have boarded special and themed cruises so far this year, travelling along the Manchester Ship Canal or taking River Explorer Cruise that showcases the Wirral peninsula and Liverpool’s UNESCO heritage waterfront.
