Leeds brewery Northern Monk hits £500k crowdfunding target in three hours
Northern Monk Brewing Co raised a target of £500k through a crowdfunding campaign in just three hours.
Nearly 1,000 people have helped raise the initial target and the Leeds-based brewery is already on the way to raising £1m.
Northern Monk Brewing wanted to raise the funds to triple capacity and install a new packaging line, expand its wild beer and barrel ageing program and fast track plans for additional tap rooms.
Launched in 2013 with just £5k, the company now has 30 members of staff, sold its beer to 22 countries (including USA, New Zealand and Japan), doubled turnover each year for the past three years and is set to brew more than 3 million pints in 2018.
Northern Monk initially announced that if more than the £500k was raised, a second tap room will open too, with London or Manchester as the preferred location.
Russ Bissett, owner of Northern Monk Brewing Co, said: “What an incredible day. The North is definitely Rising. We were blown away by the level of support for what we’ve set out to do. We reached our £0.5M target in less than three hours.
“There are over 1,000 of us in our business now! This means we’re now overfunding and starting to consider sites for our tap rooms in London and Manchester.
“At the moment we are looking to raise £1m and give away up to 10% of our business for others that are keen to join us.”
