Tennis World Middlesbrough unveils ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities created in £200k upgrade
Tennis World Middlesbrough has revealed the results of a £200k investment in its facilities.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen was on hand to unveil the six-figure makeover, which created new indoor and outdoor courts along with LED lighting.
It marks the first phase of the tennis club’s biggest overhaul since opening in 1986.
The new courts are now in use and a new function space is due for completion this autumn.
Further, the club is awaiting planning permission for a project that will make it the first in the North East to offer padel tennis, a fast-growing racquet sport.
Chairperson and performance director Libby Fletcher, a former professional tennis player, said: “The new facilities represent a huge investment for Tennis World but they have given the club a new lease of life.
“We were determined to give Teesside truly high-quality tennis facilities. We’ve done that – but now we’re working on something really innovative, with plans to launch padel tennis that will be a sport truly accessible to all.”
She continued: “This is the most exciting time for us. We’ll always retain our family values and aim to become more inclusive than ever, but the state-of-the-art facilities really do represent a new beginning for Tennis World.”
