Wetherby Senior School Welcomes Inaugural Sixth Formers

Marylebone-based Wetherby Senior School has welcomed its first cohort of Sixth Formers, marking the launch of its impressive A Level offering and considerable investment in its modern purpose-built facilities in the heart of central London.

The new Sixth Form, complete with I.T. suite, study space and contemporary common room area, builds on the success of the Senior School where the boys will continue to enjoy the academic challenges and opportunities for personal growth provided at every stage of the School.

This latest stage in the School’s development follows hot on the heels of the School celebrating the impressive achievements of its first cohort of GCSE pupils, who set standards very high by achieving an exceptional set of results. Notably, 36% of grades were awarded at grade 9 / A* and an admirable overall pass rate of 99%, with 100% pass rate in English, Maths and Science subjects. Significantly, 71% of grades awarded were at grade 7 / A or above.

Seth Bolderow, Headmaster of Wetherby Senior School explains: “We are incredibly excited about our new Sixth Form. We hope the boys build on their fantastic GCSE results and our aim is to ensure that students leave us ready for the next stage in their lives as confident, self-disciplined, independent and curious young men, but with a sense of personal and social responsibility.”

Sixth Formers follow a course of three A Levels as well as the Extended Project Qualification. Some boys choose to study a fourth A Level, for example Further Maths.

“Nurturing and developing the Sixth Formers is our goal as we prepare them to face the challenges of the modern world. Small class sizes, dedicated teaching staff and excellent pastoral care, with each boy having a tutor to support and guide them through their final two years in School, will ensure that our Sixth Form pupils maintain momentum both in and out of the classroom” Mr Bolderow added.

Wetherby’s close-knit and supportive community is well-placed to manage the transition of the boys to the top universities in the UK and abroad, giving them the academic foundation to succeed on their chosen course but, also the skills and maturity to manage their own workload and the freedom that is part of university life and beyond.

The Sixth Form enrichment programme features a series of thought-provoking talks delivered by teachers, guest speakers and the students themselves. Links with local girls’ schools, including Francis Holland School, Regent’s Park, also allow the Sixth Formers the chance to participate in additional co-curricular activities.

Wetherby Senior School is an 11-18 all boys independent day school and is part of the long-established and prestigious Wetherby family. Boys enter at Year 7 or Year 9, progressing all the way through to Sixth Form, before they transition to the top universities in the UK and abroad. The Good Schools Guide recently noted that Wetherby Senior provides “a marvellous education for the modern teenage boy.”
