Europa Accelerates Into Top Track 250

Ambitious and innovative logistics provider, Europa Worldwide Group, is one of only six freight and logistics companies included in this year’s The Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250 league table, which ranks Britain’s private, mid-market growth companies with the biggest sales.

Europa has been featured in the exclusive list of 250 companies for the first time in its 50-year history. Since then, the business has doubled in size and achieved its strongest financial position. This latest good news comes as the business marks five years since it was acquired by Managing Director Andrew Baxter.

Europa’s turnover for the 12 months leading up to August 2018 reached £170m and the company aims to pass the £400m turnover mark by 2022.

Andrew Baxter said: “I’m thrilled that Europa has been recognised in The Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250 for the first time. This is a brilliant achievement and I would like to thank all of our team for their hard work in making the business such as success. We’ve seen some major developments this year, with many more to come, and I look forward to further growth and expansion.”

In addition to the Top Track 250, Europa’s achievements this year have included: the acquisition of the Belgian specialist part and full load operator, Continental Cargo Carriers; the launch of new Europa Road services in Sheffield and Northern Ireland; and a dedicated Nordic Hub.

One of the key findings of this year’s Top Track 250 league table is that Britain’s private mid-market growth companies have prospered despite economic and political uncertainty, and have positioned themselves for further expansion.

Services and retail are the two largest sectors to feature, making up nearly two thirds of the league table (64 per cent), followed by 42 manufacturers, 33 construction firms, and 31 wholesalers; while 17 companies operate in more than one sector.

The other five freight and logistics companies featured are: distribution and warehousing provider Turners (Soham) Ltd, specialist chemical logistics provider Bulkhaul, container and transport logistics provider Maritime Group, freight services provider Braid Group and aerospace supply chain manager Patton Air.

The Top Track 250 is sponsored by Grant Thornton and Lloyds Banking Group, and compiled by research and networking events firm, Fast Track.

Dave Munton, Head of Mid-Market at Grant Thornton UK LLP said: “If we are to continue turning innovative ideas into businesses with international scale, we all need to play our part in shaping a vibrant economy that thrives. In this, the role of the mid-market is crucial. Resilient despite the headwinds, the Top Track 250 are innovating, winning business and adapting to generate value. There is much to learn from them.”

Europa Worldwide Group is a specialist road, air & sea, warehouse and showfreight operator employing 750 people across 14 sites in the UK, as well as Hong Kong and Belgium, and with representation in 100 countries.
