Russell Scanlan Selects the Alzheimer’s Society as Charity of the Year

Nottingham-based independent insurance broker, Russell Scanlan, has announced its Charity of the Year for 2019 will be the Alzheimer’s Society, the UK’s leading dementia support and research organisation.

The team will focus its considerable fundraising efforts for the year ahead on the charity, which provides information and support, and funds research, to create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Russell Scanlan’s main event is its Annual Charity Quiz, a highly competitive event which attracts around 15 teams and this year takes place at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground on Friday 8th November. The company is calling on businesses in the East Midlands to register their teams for the popular event, which is back for the seventh year in a row and includes a bottle tombola and pie and chip supper.

The business has also launched a new Charity Committee made up of team members with a passion for charity work who will spearhead fundraising initiatives, including an annual leave raffle, tuck shops and a Great British Bake Off-style baking challenge.

Mike Dickinson, Sales and Marketing Director at Russell Scanlan, said: “Raising money for good causes is something we care very much about at Russell Scanlan. This year, we wanted to continue to support a charity which makes a significant difference to our community and the Alzheimer’s Society provides a vital service for people affected by dementia in Nottinghamshire and the surrounding area, as well as across the UK as a whole.”

Olly Larkin, Community Fundraiser for the East Midlands at the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “Dementia is the 21st century’s biggest killer, with someone developing it every three minutes. We are delighted that Russell Scanlan is uniting against dementia by supporting Alzheimer’s Society. Our services in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire provide one-to-one support as well as the chance to meet and support each other. We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to staff at Russell Scanlan whose support will help us improve care, offer help and understanding, and find new treatments for people affected.”

Russell Scanlan has been committed to supporting local organisations and charities over its 138-year history in Nottingham and has recently raised funds for Forget-Me-Notts, My Sight Notts, The Nottingham Stroke Club and Linden Lodge Neurological Rehabilitation Unit.
