Shipley company in high spirits after winning global award
Local spirit company, Shiny Cowbird, has won its first industry award - as its black sambuca wins silver at the San Francisco World Spirit Awards.
The San Francisco World Spirit Awards is an internationally renowned competition, where products are evaluated in a blind taste test to conclude which products are of the highest quality in the world. In this year’s competition Shiny Cowbird fought off more than 2,500 entries to be crowned silver in the category dedicated to black sambuca.
Shipley based Shiny Cowbird was set up by Chris Bee and John Bowman in 2018. Between them, John and Chris also own award-winning companies, Beespoke Brewing, Grumpy Johns Cider and The Fox bar, where the spirit company distils all of its products.
The team draws on its extensive knowledge of the drinks industry to create a range of products that are distilled by hand and made of 100% natural ingredients. The Shiny Cowbird offering includes three exceptional gins, Absinthe, Limoncello and Pure Grain Vodka, as well as the award-winning Black Sambuca.
Of the recent award win, Chris said: “Our Black Sambuca is a seriously tasty marriage of liquorice and anise flavours, with added complexity from the infusion of the dried elderberries. It is one of our best-selling products and we’re hugely proud of the award win.”
“We’re looking forward to showcasing our other products by entering more industry awards in the near future and expanding our production to meet increasing demand.”
John adds: “The win is fantastic, but the best bit has been positive feedback from customers, it’s always nice when people like what you do!”
