Clarion costs lawyer appointed to industry regulator
Andrew McAulay, partner and head of Clarion’s costs and litigation funding team, has been appointed to the Costs Lawyer Standards Board (CLSB).
One of just five members of the CLSB, which is an Approved Regulator under the Legal Services Act 2007, Andrew will attend quarterly board meetings covering all matters relating to the regulatory work of the costs lawyer profession. This includes setting and maintaining standards from the education of costs lawyers to practising rules.
Andrew, who trained with Clarion, has almost 20 years’ experience working in legal costs claims, becoming head of costs and litigation funding at the firm in 2008. Initially providing this specialist service internally at Clarion, Andrew has built up the practice to a 25-strong team supporting over 150 law firms across the UK.
Andrew has particular expertise in solicitor/own client costs disputes, court of protection costs, litigation funding and high value commercial litigation and personal injury costs.
“I am proud to have been invited to serve on the CLSB. The organisation has played a major role in raising standards within the profession,” comments Andrew. “Ensuring that legal costs claim are handled professionally and to a high standard is crucial for the legal world.”
Clarion’s costs and litigation funding team specialises in the areas of court of protection, commercial litigation and personal injury/medical negligence costs claims. They deal with the full spectrum of legal costs work, which includes costs management and detailed assessments. They act for both the paying or receiving party and are regularly instructed directly by lay clients.
