Specialist Coventry company finds new home

An independent Coventry company that specialises in road safety and traffic management has moved into new offices after adapting to new ways of working.

For more than three decades TMS Consultancy has been working nationwide on a variety of schemes from small residential projects to major motorway schemes.

Since it was first established, the business has been based at the University of Warwick’s Science Park at a number of its locations.

Now, the long relationship is continuing as TMS Consultancy has now relocated to the Business Innovation Centre in Binley.

The move comes after the team of 13 had to learn to adapt over the past year during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Jessica Waldron, director at TMS Consultancy, said: “At the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, like many other businesses out there, we had to learn to adapt and that is something that we have done.

“Our move came down to the fact that we can be a company that can offer hybrid working, so we can still have the office experience and have team members working from home as well.

“The nature of the business, which sees some of us out on site dealing with projects, means that we can offer that. The move also means that we can create a new brand identity and that is something we would like to do in the office and across our website.”

Richard Cook, director at TMS Consultancy, added: “We could not be happier with the new office, we have been working with the Science Park and have been based across many of its locations, so it seemed only natural to continue that relationship with a move to the Business Innovation Centre.

“The centre is fantastic and there are so many great businesses based there and I look forward to working and collaborating with them.”

There are two core services that TMS Consultancy offer, the first of which is Road Safety Audits, at varying stages of scheme design and implementation. The Road Safety Audit is a systematic process for checking the road safety implications of highway improvements and new road schemes, considering all road users.

The second core service is training in the field of Road Safety, Traffic Management, Highway Design and Highway Maintenance. All of our courses offer a ‘hands on’ approach to training and are recognised for CPD by the IHE and CIHT.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, TMS started offering online training courses and an e-learning platform as well.

Jessica added: “Adapting the courses so that they could be done online is another way that we have had to evolve the business.

“Our auditing carried on throughout the pandemic, but we had to change the courses. Normally, they are in person, so we had to come up with a way to carry on online, like so many others.

“Although there are many others that are offering online courses, but we are one of the only businesses in our sector that have an e-learning platform, so once again it was another way that TMS adapted.”

Penny Robb, manager of the University of Warwick Science Park’s Business Innovation Centre in Binley, said: “We are so pleased that TMS Consultancy has decided to move into the Business Innovation Centre and is carrying on what has been a long and successful relationship with the University of Warwick Science Park.

“It is great to see that they have learnt so much over the past year and that they are still going strong and working hard to help keep our roads safe.”
