North East physiotherapist flexes entrepreneurial muscles with launch of digital platform

A North East edtech entrepreneur has launched a new digital platform aiming to better prepare students for careers in physiotherapy and sports therapy.

Martin Davies has launched Teach Me Physio with support from the Teesside University led DigitalCity initiative and its Accelerator Programme, which is designed to fast-track the growth of recently established digital and tech companies in the Tees Valley.

Martin, who has over 16 years of experience as a physiotherapist in the NHS, private practice, and in elite sport, developed the online teaching aid to support university lecturers and aspiring physios when face-to-face learning came to a halt during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

Martin said: “The human body is universal and is the same whether you are in Middlesbrough or Madrid. Having a digital platform allows us to provide the same quality of training to all students and gives control on how and when they choose to learn.”

Joining the Accelerator Programme to get support running and marketing his digital business, Martin said: “The programme helped me to take a deep dive into my target audience including their needs and how best to address them. This allowed me to provide a much better product for my users.”

Martin advised those who are considering starting a digital business: “Take advantage of skills, knowledge and experience from quality people who are willing to give it to you – especially if your background isn’t in business management or marketing.”

The DigitalCity programme at Teesside University is currently recruiting for its next Accelerator Programme in October.
