Miller Homes donates £1000 to Surrey not for profits as part of community funding drive

Homebuilder Miller Homes Southern has donated a total of £1,000 to four not for profit organisations in Surrey as part of its Community Pot initiative.

Launched to support charities across the region who have been affected by a reduction in fundraising following COVID-19, the scheme saw registered charitable bodies in Surrey apply to receive a donation of up to £250 each.

A number of charities and not-for-profit organisations from across the region applied, with the successful applicants selected by a panel of judges comprising employees from Miller Homes Southern.

The selected charities included All Yours, a subscription-based not-for-profit which makes boxes of period products for people in the local community who cannot currently afford or access sanitary products. The funding will go towards supporting the cause, which has helped more than 2,000 women to date, and will help it to continue making period boxes and supplying underwear to schools.

Walton Charity, which works to tackle the symptoms and causes of poverty in Elmbridge, was also awarded a total of £250 from the fund pot. The charity will use the funds for its Community Allotment project, which will provide social and therapeutic horticulture activities for those with learning disabilities and those who are suffering from isolation as a result of the pandemic.

Miller Homes also selected Guildford-based Eden People, which provides local support for mental health and wellbeing for its local residents. The donation will help the charity to provide free of charge access to its community activities.

Finally, charity Stripey Stork was also successful in its application. The Surrey-based baby bank provides a place for families in need to donate and receive pre-loved items such as baby carriers and highchairs. This grant will enable the charity to start a Hygiene Fund, to provide toiletries for carers, babies, and children to ensure they have the basics they need.

Commenting on the campaign and Miller Home’s support for the four local charities, Katrina Crawford, sales and marketing director at Miller Homes Southern, said:

“We launched our Community Pot initiative to show our support for the not-for-profit organisations which have struggled over the last year and a half. Some charities have seen a heightened demand from their clients as a result of reduced income, furlough and job losses. Alongside this, many haven’t been able to conduct many of their in-person fundraising activities meaning some charities have missed out on thousands of pounds over the past 18 months.

“Supporting the areas close to our developments is something which has always been a priority for Miller Homes, and these local organisations are perfect examples of companies that are doing excellent work within the community. All four of these companies are working hard to tackle important issues in society, from period and hygiene poverty to social isolation and poor mental health, and their applications blew us away. These community groups are so important, and we wanted to make sure we could support the fantastic work they do in Surrey.”
