This week’s round up of North East appointments includes Black and White Engineering, North East Procurement Organisation and Sunderland BID. Read on to find out more.

(L - R): Craig England, Scott Wilson, Karl Snowball and Jonathan Robinson-Hoare: Black and White Engineering

Black and White Engineering (B&W) has announced the appointment of Scott Wilson as UK and Europe regional head of sustainability, three technical directors, Charlie Bater, Karl Snowball and Grant Dalgleish, who were previously associate directors, and two new associate directors, Jonathan Robinson-Hoare and Craig England.

As the new UK and Europe regional head of sustainability, previously UK head of sustainability at B&W, Scott is responsible for the development and delivery of B&W’s sustainability agenda, both as a business and in the projects delivered for clients.

Scott Wilson said: “Our sustainability expertise has played a key role in our growth and seen us secure large-scale projects, including data centre design, as well as commercial property.

Steven Horn, UK & Europe director at B&W Engineering, added: “Bolstered by our team’s expertise, knowledge and technical strength including our increased sustainability offering, we have experienced rapid global growth in the last two years.

New associate directors Jonathan Robinson-Hoare and Craig England have both been with B&W for over two years in their specialist engineering design roles. Craig has spent over 40 years in building services and has a diverse range of experience across retail, education, healthcare and mission-critical MEP design.

Jonathan’s specific experience includes “fundamental and outstanding” knowledge of electrical engineering and how this influences the design of a data centre which plays a pivotal role in B&W’s delivery of data centre design projects.

Marie Perriam, Laura Kyle, Jane Turner and Sarah Brown: NEPO

North East Procurement Organisation (NEPO) has announced four new appointments, as part of its strategy to drive growth through collaborative procurement. Marie Perriam and Laura Kyle have been promoted to energy lead and construction lead, respectively.

Both Marie and Laura joined NEPO following completion of an apprenticeship scheme and progressed their careers from procurement officers to their new, senior roles. Their promotions will see them take on strategic responsibility for NEPO’s energy and construction categories, with a combined annual value of approximately £340m.

Also joining the team are Jane Turner and Sarah Brown who, together, bring over 30 years of procurement experience to the organisation. Jane joins NEPO from PD Ports where she was sourcing manager. Her new role as procurement specialist will see her work alongside Laura in the construction team.

Sarah joins as procurement specialist, responsible for the fleet category. She was previously procurement advisor at Karbon Homes and commences her career at NEPO leading the procurement of a regional framework for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Nicola Shelley, managing director at NEPO, said: “Jane and Sarah are new additions to the team and will bring a wealth of experience to assist us to move forward with our ambitious strategy.

“As Marie and Laura’s well-deserved promotions demonstrate, procurement is a rewarding career path that incorporates professional development and recognises talent. The next three years will see significant developments in public sector construction and energy, as the levelling-up and climate action agendas continue to take centre stage.”

(L - R): Kayleigh Derbyshire and Hena Syeda Ahmed, Sunderland BID

Sunderland BID has expanded its team, with two new appointments. Kayleigh Derbyshire has taken up the role of marketing and communications assistant, while Hena Syeda Ahmed has been named as executive assistant and office administrator.

Kayleigh worked in student accommodation and social housing after leaving Sunderland University but discovered a passion for marketing, going back to studying to gain a relevant qualification.

She said: “I absolutely love Sunderland. It really is home now and watching how the city has developed in the time I have lived here has been great, so I really wanted to be a part of that development.”

Hena has come to the BID after six years with Sunderland business agency, Ashmore Consulting. A graduate from Sunderland University, her experience spans everything from volunteering and community work to customer service, events organising and administrative duties.

She said: “It’s lovely to be part of the BID team and be in a position to help change people’s perceptions of Sunderland and show them the experiences the city has to offer. There are so many positive things happening, it’s a great time to be involved.”

Sharon Appleby, chief executive of Sunderland BID, said that both Kayleigh and Hena will be a huge asset: “We are heading to one of our busiest years to date with a packed programme of activities right through to December. So it’s really important we have the right people in place to help us deliver all of our events.”
