Award-winning cocktail bar announces latest venue at ‘iconic’ Newcastle location

Mother Mercy, a popular name on the cocktail scene and recently recognised as one of the Top 50 Cocktail Bars in the UK, has just announced the opening of ‘Café Mercy,’ its fifth venue in the North East.

Nestled in the heart of Grey Street, Café Mercy is set to open its doors on Friday August 25, ahead of the August Bank Holiday weekend.

After achieving success with its other venues (Cloth Market, Fenwick’s and along the Quayside) and winning the Newcastle Chronicle’s ‘Best Bar’ award last year, Mother Mercy has embarked on a new adventure ‘Café Mercy,’ promising the “laid-back allure of Ibiza harmoniously blending with the timeless charm of Mediterranean chic”.

Occupying the ‘iconic’ location formerly known as Dacantus, Café Mercy promises to transport guests to a realm of “sophisticated delights and impeccable aesthetics”. The interior design aims to exude a sense of “understated elegance, creating an inviting and enchanting atmosphere”.

Café Mercy boasts an “enticing” cocktail menu offering a range of signature and new cocktail creations, including their famous and hugely popular Spritzes. Highlights from the menu include their Santorini Spritz; a Beefeater blood orange gin, with rose, almond, blood orange soda and Prosecco.

Catering to those seeking a “premium cocktail haven” in Newcastle, Café Mercy will also be offering charcuterie and small plates to accompany their drinks. Upon stepping in, guests will become immersed in a modern Mediterranean-inspired setting, adorned with rattan furnishings and white marble tables.

Seating up to 50 guests throughout the venue, the chairs and booths will showcase the signature Mother Mercy coral, infusing a “vibrant” splash of colour into the modern Mediterranean design. Adding to the ambience, intricate tapestry-inspired wall art will further enhance the modern Greek motif, setting the stage for a “relaxed experience”.

Neil Donachie, founder of Mother Mercy and Café Mercy, commented: “With our successful track record in the cocktail and hospitality scene, we are delighted to be expanding our portfolio with Café Mercy, creating a place where our guests can unwind, connect, and revel in the fusion of Mediterranean influences.

“We are confident that Café Mercy will quickly become a favourite destination for locals and visitors alike and we can’t wait for everyone to join us in this exciting new chapter and experience Café Mercy for themselves.”
