£1bn projects underway in Huddersfield outlined at Huddersfield conference

Huddersfield Unlimited, the business-led organisation that stands for the town of Huddersfield, hosted its second mini-conference, ‘Why Huddersfield? Why Now?’, on Wednesday 25th October at The John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield.

The event brought together speakers from the University of Huddersfield, Network Rail and Kirklees Council, among others, to discuss the future of Huddersfield and share an exclusive update on the £1bn of investment currently underway in the town.

Huddersfield Unlimited’s key stakeholders shared collective ambitions for the town, with a focus on exploring what can be achieved over the next five to ten years and beyond. And the audience explored how Huddersfield can make the most of its strengths, such as being at the centre of the North’s East-West transport routes, especially with the surge of public sector investment.

Business leaders discussed topics such as Kirklees Council’s Cultural Heart and Station 2 Stadium Enterprise Corridor projects, the Transpennine Route Upgrade, and The University of Huddersfield’s multi-million-pound investment in a world-class National Health Innovation Campus.

Chair of Huddersfield Unlimited, Sir John Harman, said: “Huddersfield Unlimited has one unifying aim; a determination that Huddersfield should have a vibrant, successful future. So, thank you to everyone who took the time to attend our ‘Why Huddersfield? Why Now?’ conference.

“I was incredibly pleased to see such a high calibre of businesses and organisations attending, speaking and showcasing why Huddersfield is becoming THE place to do business.

“We are working hard with our partners to ensure this trajectory of success for the town continues to grow. With over £1bn of public spending on projects already underway, providing a powerful lever to bring in business investment over the next few years, Huddersfield is at a turning point and we want you to be a part of it.”
