Grand Central reveals London rail revival plan
A train operator has unveiled plans to restore a London route after three decades in the sidings.
Grand Central hopes to revive a direct service between Cleethorpes and King’s Cross.
Bosses say the move would resurrect a link between the seaside resort and London lost since 1992, and could pump £30 million into the North East Lincolnshire economy every year.
They add the venture would run four times a day and include stops at Grimsby, Habrough and Scunthorpe.
If approved by regulator Office of Rail and Road, services could begin in late 2026.
Paul Hutchings, Grand Central managing director, said: “We’re excited about the opportunity to reconnect Cleethorpes to London with new direct services, the first of their kind since 1992.
“These services will play a pivotal role in driving regional growth by linking underserved communities to key commercial opportunities, benefiting both local businesses and passengers.”
Melanie Onn, Labour MP for Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes, added: “A direct rail service between Cleethorpes and London would significantly boost our local economy.
“This isn’t just about attracting future investment into our town, it’s about addressing missed economic and social opportunities due to current poor connectivity.”
