Getting to know... Faye Binns
In a new feature for Bdaily looking at the person behind the business profile, Faye Binns, managing director of Manchester, Leeds and Harrogate-based Space PR, talks about her route into property public relations, the delight she takes in supporting clients' journeys and how she relaxes outside of work.
We know you as the managing director of property PR agency Space PR, but who is the person behind the title? Tell us a little about what makes you tick…
I’m interested in people and their impact, both on the built environment and across the companies and markets in which they operate.
People leave a stamp on the work they do, and it’s fascinating to get to know what motivates them and communicate their vision, as well as showcase their expertise to a wider audience.
I genuinely love my job and wake up every day wanting to surpass client expectations and prove to them why they retain us.
Did you always want to work in PR?
Yes. From the moment I first worked on a property account around 20 years ago, I knew that was going to be my specialism.
What’s the best bit about your job? And the worst?
Hearing that a piece of PR you’ve placed has led to a multi-million-pound instruction or deal for a client will never get old, and having a real impact on individuals, businesses and projects is massively rewarding too.
We work with some of the best minds in the property industry, so every day is interesting.
The worst bit is when barriers to development impact some of the amazing schemes we know are in the pipeline.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
To have set up a niche agency in the middle of a recession and still be going strong with a client list including the world’s largest real estate firm and several global and national investment and development companies some 17 years later is undoubtedly my greatest professional achievement.
How do you relax outside of work?
I’m typically found on the sidelines of football matches.
If not, I’m absorbing as much written content as possible… ideally, with as much sun as possible!
What makes the North such a great place to live and work?
The drive and can-do attitude of the people.
We’re a straight-talking team with straight-talking clients, and that makes things happen at pace.
Tell us something about you we don’t know…
I have done a lot of voiceover work – you might have heard me on adverts for major car and lifestyle brands.
This won’t surprise those who know me, as I do like to talk!
