Asbestos firm expands with Omega takeover
An asbestos risk management company has expanded with a takeover.
Environmental Essentials has bought Omega Asbestos Consulting.
Bosses say the deal will provide Stoke-headquartered Environmental Essentials with “a significant route into untapped telecoms, utilities and specialist manufacturing markets”.
Under the terms of the agreement, completed for an undisclosed sum, Gary McKendrick, managing director at Durham-based asbestos management operator Omega, will leave the business.
Other Omega staff, including commercial director Steve Hubery and operations director Craig Johnston, will remain with the company.
The deal marks Environmental Essentials’ fourth acquisition, following previous moves for Adams Environmental, Quality Environmental Services and Callidus Health & Safety Limited.
Richard Powner, co-founder and executive director at Environmental Essentials – which counts the Houses of Parliament as a client, and has further offices in Glasgow, Leeds, London and Sheffield – said: “We have gone back to our roots by investing in an excellent asbestos management business.
“Omega has a strong presence in the North East, helping strengthen our footprint in the region, while also bridging the gap between our Stoke headquarters and other key geographic locations, such as Scotland, where we already support a number of customers.”
Jon Earl, of Environmental Essentials’ investment partner BGF, added: “The business has started 2025 with the same appetite and intention as the last, successfully executing a buy-and-build strategy.
“We’re delighted to be supporting the team as they grow through a truly long-term flexible approach.”
Beswicks Legal and Dains Accountants advised Environmental Essentials on the takeover.
Northern Accountants and Swinburne Maddison supported Omega.
