Port salutes renewables work after record results
Port bosses have hailed a site's renewable energy prowess after chalking up record financial results for a fourth successive year.
Port of Blyth saw turnover across its main operating business rise to a best-ever £22.23 million in 2024.
Overall group turnover grew to £31.48 million, with operating profit and pre-tax profit standing at £2.65 million and £2.23 million, respectively.
Officials say the results “cement the port’s reputation as a leading UK offshore energy cluster.”
The trade hub’s progress was fuelled by its status as a construction base for Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, in the North Sea, and the building of a huge wind turbine monopile drill at its South Harbour Terminal.
It also benefited from continued demand for its forwarding and export packing subsidiary Transped, and pipe reel handling and decommissioning services for the oil and gas industry.
Martin Lawlor, chief executive, said: “This success is a testament to the dedication and effort of our outstanding workforce, who remain our core asset and drive exceptional levels of service.”
Catherine Young, chair of the port’s board of commissioners, added: “It is incredibly pleasing to have seen such outstanding performance during my first year as chair.
“This continued success reinforces my confidence in the port’s direction and its vital contribution to the regional economy and the local community.”
