Digital drive gives firms a smarter edge for growth
Small and medium-sized manufacturers across the North East are being offered a digital boost to help grow operations and adopt new technologies.
The Made Smarter Adoption North East programme, run with the support of the region's two combined authorities and the North East Growth Hub, is offering grants of up to £23,500, alongside expert advice and workshops, to help firms develop digital strategies, streamline processes and invest in new software or equipment.
Following the success of the scheme in the Tees Valley, where more than 100 businesses have already taken part, new cohorts are being recruited to begin a series of three workshops starting May 14, which will cover topics including digitalisation strategy, lean thinking and change management.
Firms completing the programme can access up to £3500 in technical advice and up to £20,000 towards equipment or software.
Among the companies that have already benefited from Made Smarter is Redcar-based Elemy Ltd, which used the support to sharpen its strategy following its recent acquisition of a Suffolk-based firm.
Richard Brine, managing director, said: “Engaging with the Made Smarter programme allowed the business to develop a robust business case and adoption plan to purchase and incorporate a new customer relations management system and take advantage of the programme’s capital grant of up to £20,000.”
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen added: “We are home to some of the world’s best manufacturing firms – and with the right support, they can go even further.
“Elemy is a brilliant example of what happens when you match local ingenuity with the right backing.
“I’m proud this will work not only here in Teesside, but across the North East, shoulder to shoulder with our colleagues in the north, to deliver real results for businesses on our doorstep.”
