PLATFORM_ lands retail lettings at city schemes
A build-to-rent developer is strengthening its residential offer in Glasgow and Leeds.
PLATFORM_ has confirmed Sainsbury’s Local will open at its Glasgow development at Anderston Quay, with Asda Express joining its Sweetfields neighbourhood scheme, in Leeds’ South Bank.
The Sainsbury’s store is set to open in June 2025, while Asda Express is scheduled for early 2027, aligning with the first residential completions at Sweetfields.
Sweetfields will deliver 1351 homes and 160,000sq ft of office and commercial space around a new public square, while the Glasgow site – a joint venture with Northwood Investors – will provide 498 apartments.
Bosses say the lettings form part of PLATFORM_’s ongoing strategy to integrate convenient amenities into its high-growth, city-centre locations.
Jean-Marc Vandevivere, chief executive at PLATFORM_, said: “We’re delighted major grocery retailers such as Asda and Sainsbury’s share our vision for our chosen locations, supporting our decision to commence development and create new homes and communities on these long-vacant sites.
“These lettings endorse our assessment of the strong demographics and commercial fundamentals of these regeneration areas, which are typical of the high-growth, city centre opportunities that PLATFORM_ targets.”
Kevin Watson, operations and commercial Director at PLATFORM_, added: “We believe a truly great development isn’t just about the homes – it’s about creating a vibrant, self-sustaining environment where residents can access everything they need close to home.
“These stores will play an important role in this vision, alongside our other on-site amenities, such as co-working spaces, gyms and communal lounges.”
