Compass Education Joins Irish Government’s SMIS Framework, Expanding MIS Choices for Primary and Post-Primary Schools
Compass Education joins Ireland’s national SMIS framework, giving schools more choice and control.
Compass Education has been officially appointed to the Irish Government’s Multi-Supplier Framework for School Management Information Systems (SMIS) following contract signature on 22 May 2025.
The national framework, run by HEAnet - Ireland’s national education and research network - lets every Primary, Community National and Post-Primary school procure an MIS through a mini-competition, with a maximum of five approved suppliers per lot.
What the SMIS Framework Means for Schools
Schools that join the framework gain:
Choice: Compass has long been a champion for the power of choice in schools and this innovative framework ensures that, for the first time in over a decade, all Irish schools can exercise their right to choose.
Strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs): Response and resolution times are baked into the contract, ensuring consistent school support and the highest levels of service quality.
Scope: The Framework covers attendance, timetabling, communications, online payments and other features that are key needs identified by Irish principals.
Simplicity: The new Framework makes the task of choosing, and switching to a new SMIS platform easy and efficient.
Comment from Compass Education
Owen McGowan, Country Manager – Ireland, said:
“Being awarded a leading position on the new SMIS Framework is a win for school autonomy. More than 100 Irish schools already trust Compass; now every primary and secondary school can evaluate us through the national framework’s mini-competition and choose the MIS that best fits their community.”
Jerome Muldoon, Chief Customer Officer, added:
“Our mission is to simplify the school day. Being part of this new Framework lets us deliver that mission - backed by national level quality assurance and SLAs - to thousands of educators, students and their families across Ireland.”
