North East England launches toolkit to support regenerative business events
By choosing the North East of England as their host destination, event organisers can now prioritise sustainability and maximise their positive social impact.
NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, on behalf of Destination North East England, has developed a comprehensive toolkit which provides guidance and advice to support organisers to make decisions about their events which prioritise people and the planet.
The convention bureau worked closely with local events management company BeaconHouse Events to develop the toolkit, utilising their industry-leading knowledge and expertise.
The toolkit includes a comprehensive list of venues and suppliers with bone fide sustainability accreditations, information on local food donation programmes, volunteering opportunities for delegates, community engagement ideas, as well as a call-out for more sustainable suppliers to ensure the information evolves and is kept up to date with the latest innovative market suppliers.
This follows the announcement earlier this year of NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau’s partnership with event:decision, a leading provider dedicated to innovative, responsible and sustainable event solutions.
Through the partnership and as part of the toolkit, a bespoke version of the Impact: Responsible Event Review digital platform has been created to provide event organisers with unique advice on how to improve the sustainability and social impact of their event in North East England.
Shelley Johnson, Head of Market Insights at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, which leads the convention bureau, said:
“Conferences and business events provide a distinct opportunity to make a positive social and environmental impact on a destination and I am very happy that we are now fully able to support organisers in this way.
“It has been fantastic to work with really knowledgeable organisations to bring this toolkit to life and ensure it offers the information that organisers want and need. We’ve been holding roundtables recently with local organisers to get feedback and showcase how they can take advantage of the toolkit to make an even bigger impact with their events.”
Sarah Thackray, Director, Co-founder, and Sustainability Lead at BeaconHouse Events, added:
“We are keen to support any business and event planner with event sustainability. It’s a top priority for our agency as we are focused on driving change for the events industry regionally, as well as nationally. We believe that through collaboration and shared learning, we can have a greater impact and, as we are rooted in the North East, we are passionate about supporting the sector and leading the event sustainability movement here.”
