Kynren brings sustainability centre stage
A County Durham live entertainment show is making a sustainable change this summer.
Kynren, the open-air historical spectacular staged by charity 11Arches in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, has partnered with sustainable drinks supplier Everdurance to remove single-use plastic bottles from its 2025 season.
The show, which involves over 1000 volunteers in bringing 2000 years of British history to life, attracts up to 8000 audience members per performance, making it one of the largest events of its kind in the UK.
As part of the new partnership, carton water will be available to purchase on site across all nine performances, replacing plastic bottled water with a fully recyclable alternative.
Organisers hope the change will demonstrate how large-scale productions can adopt more environmentally conscious practices without compromising the visitor experience.
Anna Warnecke, chief executive of Kynren, said: “At Kynren, we’re committed to delivering unforgettable live experiences while treading more lightly on the planet.
“Our partnership with Everdurance is part of a wider move towards more sustainable practices across our event – from waste reduction to energy efficiency.
“Making the switch to carton water helps us cut down on single-use plastic and sends a message that every choice counts.”
Everdurance, which supports a wide range of venues and events to reduce plastic usage, supplies sustainable hydration solutions to schools, workplaces and festivals nationwide.
Its collaboration with Kynren signals a broader ambition to help the live entertainment industry rethink its approach to single-use plastics.
Callum Mather, founder of Everdurance, added: “Partnering with Kynren is incredibly special to us.
“It’s not just about supplying water; it’s about being part of something bigger.
“Kynren is a household name in the North, and by choosing to adopt sustainable practices, they’re setting a powerful example.
“It shows that small, thoughtful changes can have a massive impact when embraced at scale.”
