Kromek boosts order book with £860,000 contracts
A technology firm behind equipment used to help foil terror plots has picked up £860,000 security deals.
Kromek is working with the Ministry of Defence and a US federal agency.
Bosses at the radiation detector kit maker, based at NETPark, in Sedgefield, County Durham, say the agreements “underscore the global demand for its solutions”.
Used by defence forces worldwide, the apparatus helps thwart extremist threats such as ‘dirty’ bombs.
Its Ministry of Defence deal – worth £250,000 and awarded via the body’s Science and Technology Laboratory through a Government programme – will support an 18-month project aimed at bolstering biological threat surveillance.
The firm will also send its D5-branded radiation detectors to a US federal agency and has secured new orders for its D3M-branded detectors, which officials say will be used by emergency responders and security services in Japan, Canada and Bulgaria.
Dr Arnab Basu, chief executive at Kromek, which last month secured a further $5 million as part of a “landmark” Siemens Healthineers deal, said its latest agreements further emphasise its security sector prowess.
He added: “These orders, from both public and private sector customers, underscore the global demand for our solutions and the growing base of organisations that rely on our technology.
“We are especially proud to have been awarded a new biosecurity contract by the Ministry of Defence, expanding our existing collaboration in nuclear security and reinforcing our position as a trusted partner in national defence.
“These orders provide increased visibility on our future revenue and reflect the strong momentum building in this segment.”
