Stockton Globe wows with 90th birthday revamp
A Teesside live entertainment venue has celebrated a milestone anniversary with bold changes.
Stockton Globe, a cornerstone of the region’s cultural scene since 1935, marked its 90th birthday with a “show-stopping” transformation, unveiling a flexible new flat floor to 100 key stakeholders.
The “revolutionary” new flooring allows the auditorium to switch seamlessly between traditional tiered seating and a fully flat space, opening the door to a wider range of events, from gala dinners and conferences to an immersive roller disco rink.
Jo Ager, venue director, said: “At Stockton Globe, we are committed to future proofing the venue by not only delivering a diverse programme of events but also actively partnering with the regional business community.
“With our new flexible floor, we can now support this through exhibitions, corporate dinners and tailored events that foster innovation and collaboration in the corporate space.
“Venues must continuously evolve and be creative with their spaces to meet the ever-changing market demands and needs.”
Mike Greene, chief executive at Stockton Borough Council, added: “Stockton Globe’s new flat floor configuration creates a range of new possible uses of this fantastic venue.
“The combination of beautiful architecture, top quality sound and lighting systems, and enough room for 250 people to be seated at tables and served in style, could be a game changer for corporate business and entertainment needs in the Tees Valley.”
The venue, famed for hosting legends including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queens of the Stone Age and Morrissey, used the birthday event to highlight both its rich history and forward-looking innovations.
Guests were treated to bespoke cocktails and mocktails from event sponsor Steel River Gin, as well as live performances from the Zoe Gilby Quartet, rising artist Marina Josephina and the Stockton Globe Community Choir.
Hosted by Alfie Joey alongside Jo, the event celebrated Stockton Globe’s past and future, highlighting the 1935 Corporate Club, which lets businesses engage new audiences while supporting local arts and live entertainment.
The celebration also showcased Stockton Globe’s Creative Learning programme, which offers workshops, school partnerships and skills-based projects to engage the local community and nurture creative talent.
Jo added: “Stockton Globe’s Creative Learning programme plays a vital role in connecting with the community.
“It also offers businesses meaningful ways to contribute, whether through sponsorship, partnerships, or volunteering.
“This opportunity to enhance social value commitments while supporting inspiring projects allows businesses to make a meaningful impact in the community and contribute towards positive change.
“Since reopening, more than 12,000 people have participated in Creative Learning activities at Stockton Globe and this engagement continues to grow through workshops, events, and outreach initiatives.”
