Tekever reveals 1000-job drone factory plans
A technology firm has unveiled 1000-job drone factory plans.
Tekever is set to open a Swindon base.
Bosses say the 254,000sq ft manufacturing and research site will “strengthen the economy and national security”.
The hub, which will act as Tekever’s fourth – and largest – UK base, is expected to begin operations in 2026.
The company – which already has sites in Southampton and Wales – says the new plant will bring “large-scale production of platforms to the UK”, including StormShroud drones, which are used by the Royal Air Force.
It adds the factory will also help maintain supplies of drones to Ukraine, which have been used to combat Russian air defence systems during the latter’s invasion of the eastern European country.
Karl Brew, director of Tekever Defence, said: “Our decision to establish a new facility in Swindon reflects our commitment to the UK.
“This investment will ensure we deliver advanced, sovereign capability at pace and in close partnership with the UK defence ecosystem.”
John Healey, defence secretary, added: “This new factory is a clear demonstration that the Government is making defence an engine for growth across the UK.
“By backing Britain’s defence industry, we strengthen both our economy and national security.”
