Ex-rugby star scrums down for business growth
A former rugby league player turned mortgage consultancy founder is tackling fresh growth plans after expanding his venture.
James Green has moved Green & Green to a larger base.
The ex-Hull Kingston Rovers forward says the switch – to a bigger office in its present Ergo Business Centre home, in Hessle, near Hull – will allow the 2020-founded firm to continue expanding.
Established during the pandemic, Green & Green now operates with a five-strong team – including James’ former Bradford Bulls team-mate Rhys Evans as a consultant – and provides mortgage advice to clients nationwide, with a speciality in supporting athletes and those on short-term contracts.
James, who hails from Beverley and launched the business from a box room in his home, said: “We have never pre-empted anything; a big part of our approach is to encourage clients to get ahead of things, so we need to heed our own advice.
“In property generally, we see the climate is improving and there are positive things to shout about.
“We also see potential in helping professional athletes find mortgage options that work in the uncertain environment of short-term contracts.
“We have never taken on any debt and we have a gradual growth plan around expanding to a maximum team of eight.
“It may be I’ll move into a business development role looking at different markets and areas that we haven’t tapped into yet.”
