Getting to know... Paul Christie
In the latest instalment of Bdaily’s Getting to know... feature, which looks at the person behind the business profile, Paul Christie, of London-based medtech firm Tachmed, talks about the 'eureka moment' that shifted his career goals, the joy of family and helping Dave Gilmour in Paris.
We know you as the co-founder and chief executive of Tachmed, but who is the person behind the title? Tell us a little about what makes you tick…
I would consider myself a purpose-driven individual with strong ambition, but beyond monetary goals.
Overall, I am committed to making a meaningful impact through my business endeavours and particularly through Tachmed, which truly has the potential to revolutionise healthcare on a global scale.
That said, my close family is everything when it comes to defining achievement and my happy place.
Whether it is watching sports, vacations or more adrenaline-fuelled pastimes, I want to share it with my kids.
Did you always want to work in medtech?
Not really. I originally wanted to be a lawyer and then got excited by capital markets, before advancing into the medtech sector.
My main ‘eureka moment’ came when working in Africa and seeing first-hand the challenges people had in accessing even simple diagnostics and healthcare.
What’s the best bit about your job? And the worst?
The best bit is definitely creating a vision, setting the goals and assembling the right team to execute the strategy to get there.
The worst? Any delay to rectifying a mistake.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
My children. I don’t care how clichéd that is.
How could it be any different if you raise them well?
How do you relax outside of work?
Define relax? I enjoy walking the dog, as it provides an excellent opportunity to think and reflect either before, or following, the day.
Tell us something about you we didn’t know…
I once gave my taxi in Paris to Dave Gilmour and his wife, so they could escape worshipping fans.
