Booths hails Christmas demand as sales increase
A family-owned food and drink retailer is full of cheer after record festive demand.
Booths saw like-for-like sales increase 4.9 per cent in December and jump 3.8 per cent across the three-week period to January 3.
Bosses say the upticks mark a third consecutive year of growth for the Preston-headquartered firm, with demand driven by products including turkey, cheese, mince pies and biscuits.
Turkey sales were up 12 per cent, with sweet-toothed customers providing a 14 per cent rise on festive biscuit sales.
Sales of mince pies increased by 5.3 per cent and demand for cheese was four per cent better off.
The firm’s Christmas Book, featuring pre-order festive items, also notched 9.5 per cent higher like-for-like sales.
Nigel Murray, managing director at the business, which has stores across Lancashire, Cumbria and Yorkshire, said: “I’m delighted to report growth-on-growth figures for a third consecutive year.
“Christmas at Booths is a true team effort, 365 days in the planning and preparation.
“I’m particularly proud of the number of unique award-winning products developed and made by Booths, with the support of wonderful artisan suppliers.
“The quality of our offer was the best yet, and was served up with the warmest of Northern welcomes.”
