NE organisations encouraged to support 2012 athletes
North East organisations are on their marks for the 2012 Olympics with ‘Pre Games Training Camps’ for athletes.
In the years and months leading up to the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, athletes will need support in a variety of ways from comfortable and affordable accommodation to training facilities and equipment, and a ‘Pre Games Training Camp Guide’ is being created listing appropriate facilities by location and sport. To promote the North East’s involvement, local sports organisations are invited to a seminar at Durham County Hall Council Chamber at 1.30pm on 19 September 2006 to discuss how the region can provide the best possible environment for visiting teams.
Judith Rasmussen, regional director with Sport England North East, said: “We have some world class facilities here that will provide excellent training environments for athletes and will put the North East on the map as an important contributor to sport. We’re encouraging organisations to get involved with the pre games activity, not only to help today’s Olympic athletes, but also to encourage people of all levels to take up sport, whether it be for competitive, recreational or well-being reasons.”
Organisations that are interested in attending the seminar can request an invitation at pregamestraining@onenortheast.co.uk. Spaces are limited to one representative per organisation. It is also useful to review the online submission form and associated information prior to the seminar at: www.london2012.com/en/gettinginvolved/trainingcamps/. The deadline for submission of completed application forms is 31st January 2007.
