Wind farm plans for Durham

An extra ten wind turbines could be built in County Durham. E.ON UK, the company that runs Powergen, is holding three public exhibitions about the plans to build the wind farm at Butterwick in County Durham.

The wind farm could generate enough electricity for 8,500 households, and E.ON UK believes the turbines would directly benefit the local and regional economies by £7m. The proposed site is next to the already approved seven turbine Walkway Wind Farm on Butterwick Moor, north of the A689 and east of Sedgefield.

Alex Fornal, Project Developer for E.ON UK, said: “We’d really encourage people living near the proposed site to come out and take at look our plans and to ask us questions. “Visitors will also get the chance to learn more about how the local community may benefit from the wind farm. “We’re proposing the creation of a community fund that would be made available over the life of the scheme to support local projects if we got permission to build the wind farm.”

Details of the proposal and will be available at: Fishburn Community Centre, Fishburn on Wednesday 20th September, from 12pm to 3pm; Trimdon Village Hall, Trimdon village on Wednesday 20th September, from 5pm to 9pm; and Sedgefield Parish Hall, Sedgefield on Thursday 21st September, from 12pm to 8.30pm, and on Friday 22nd September, from 9.30am to 4pm.

The UK Government has set a target of generating 15% of electricity from renewable sources by 2015.
