The next a:design association event is at Newcastle’s Tiger Tiger on Thursday 16th February at 5.30pm, where guest speaker David Coates from NE6 will be talking about creativity, tendering and pitching - value versus cost. In 1981, David Coates established McIlroy Coates with Ian McIlroy, which was to become the pre-eminent design practice in Scotland.
At its height it employed 32 people, with a turnover of some £4.5 million. Winners of dozens of international and national awards, McIlroy Coates became the benchmark for creativity in Scotland and helped revitalised the designer sector.In May 1991, David stood down as Managing Director to pursue food, wine and property interests in Italy and was retained as a consultant in a non-executive Director capacity at McIlroy Coates. From early 1995 until May 1996 David was Managing Director of Yellow M Design in Newcastle, before setting up NE6 Design with Alan Whitfield some eight years ago, rapidly establishing a highly creative consultancy, with a reputation for excellence, creativity and good times.
His talk will, in terms of best practice, explore creativity and the issues that surround tendering, speculative pitching and value versus costs.Cost is £10 for design industry, £5 for studentsPayment to be made on the door.
