65% of mobile gamers are women
Women are the biggest driving force for the mobile phone game market, reveals research from US mobile research company Telephia. Women outnumber men in the purchase of all types of mobile game, except for action/adventure mobile games, in which men drive 60 percent of the revenue. “The casual nature of mobile games provides tremendous appeal to women, who are not traditionally hardcore gamers by console or online gaming standards,” said Kanishka Agarwal, Vice President of New Products, Telephia. “The wireless industry has presented a hungry target audience willing to pay premium access to games through their cell phones.” Four of the top five revenue-generating titles fall into the Puzzle/Strategy category. Tetris, Tetris Deluxe, Bejeweled, JAMDAT Mahjong and Ms. Pac-Man are the most popular games. Mobile game purchases continue to grow in the US, with more than 8.6 million games bought in April, increasing 60% since the beginning of the year.
