Cash boost for Sunderland digital innovation

A share of £1.2 million will be given to Sunderland City Council to develop projects using new and evolving technology and create a ‘wired up community’. Sunderland is one of 10 national areas to benefit from the cash, and the only one from the North East. Sunderland’s project Where people matter has explored innovative ways to reach disadvantaged groups. Understanding that one approach will not suit all hard to reach groups, the City Council has come up with a range of proposals to get IT to its residents. As a result, community IT facilities will be found in both traditional and non-traditional settings such as village halls, GP surgeries, public houses as well as mobile ICT facilities.
