Flamboyant finale for dance festival
A month-long festival on Tyneside will conclude today with a flamboyant finale. Dance City’s danciNG the World International Festival has brought the cream of the dancing world to Tyneside for a month-long programme of events. The programme included contemporary dance companies from Japan, Taiwan, India, Zanzibar, Brazil, Denmark, Belgium and Finland. Tonight’s finale at the £7.6m Dance City building in Newcastle will feature a festival commission of new work by Ballet Lorent for three classical dancers from Mexico City, as well as excerpts from other festival pieces by regionally based choreographers Helen Smith (Virtual Motion), Nicole Watson, Garner Harris, Molly and Bertie and Caroline Bowditch. The event will also see the launch of a collection of images and writing features by 23 North East dance artists celebrating the dance landscape in the region. Tonight’s performance will take place at 8pm at Dance City on Temple Street, Newcastle.
