Hadrian's spirit inspires Wall web designers

The designers of an interactive website dedicated to Hadrian’s Wall say their work was inspired by the same spirit of innovation for which Emperor Hadrian himself was famous.Newcastle-based FUSEBOXDESIGN designed and developed www.Hadrians-Wall.org for The Hadrian’s Wall Tourism Partnership. Since launching in November last year, the site has averaged 40,000 unique visitors per month as legions of history-hungry tourists and schoolchildren march to the website looking to find out about the fascinating history and beauty of Hadrian’s Wall and its surrounding area.Hilary Norton, Marketing Officer at Hadrian’s Wall Tourism Partnership, said: “The overall design has been developed within our own brand guidelines with great success. “I believe the new website will be at the forefront of UK tourism destination websites. Since its launch, the average usage has nearly doubled, giving totals of about 40,000 unique visitors and well over a million hits per month.“The website is a portal for everything to do with the 1,800-year-old wall – from accommodation in the area and a section to help tourists plan a visit, to an interactive map with details of all the main attractions in Hadrian’s Wall Country. It also includes an extensive education section that schoolchildren can use to find out more about the wall, the Romans, Celts, and other World Heritage Sites. Similarly, teachers can visit the education section to access a range of resources to help them make the most out of school trips.
