Help Find The North East's Most Enterprising Place

A competition has been launched today that will see North East England competing for the title of most enterprising place in Britain.

As part of the regional heats of “Enterprising Britain 2006”, regional development agency One NorthEast is looking for the town, city or place that best demonstrates the entrepreneurial spirit of the North East.

The “Enterprising North East England Competition” aims to identify enterprise champions: places that have created jobs, brought communities together, and made a real difference to local businesses and local people.

The winner of the regional heat will go forward to compete in the national finals of “Enterprising Britain 2006”, where the overall UK winner will be selected to compete on the continent in the “European Enterprise Awards”. In Britain, the nine English regions plus Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland will face each other to find the most enterprising place in Britain.

A panel of regional business experts will judge the competition. One NorthEast Director of Business and Industry, David Allison, said: “The North East has long been a centre of enterprise and has a rich history of entrepreneurs. Nurturing the spirit of enterprise is a vital part of the economy and culture of our region and we are pleased to have the chance to show what makes working in the North East so special, and why the region is home to some of the most enterprising places in Britain.“Entries for the regional competition must be received by midday Friday 28th April. The judges will be looking for a town, city or place in the North East that has best improved the economic prospects of the region and encouraged enterprise activities.
