I spy the latest design talent on Tyneside

A design exhibition which invited submissions from all over the world will open tomorrow night on Tyneside. The brief – “I spy with my little eye” - was sent out to 200 designers and studios. It asked them to respond with something they had seen or that had inspired them in the past 24 hours.Responses were received from all over the world. The region’s homegrown talent is also represented at the show where local artists Adam Pointer, Stew Graham, Element 5.0, Sarah Kirby and Hype Type will exhibit alongside a number of international artists, including Sweden Graphics, Sweden; Delaware, Japan and a number of prestigious London studios, for example Build, Blanka / Neue, Zip and Insect.Danielle Pender I Spy director said: “The response we have received has been amazing. It’s really exciting that such well respected designers have taken time out of their days to work on something for our exhibition. Newcastle has such a burgeoning design sector yet there have been no exhibitions or events so far to reflect this. We wanted to put our neck on the line and do something different, to prove there is talent out there and an audience who wants to see their work. We’re really looking forward to developing the idea and taking the work to other European cities.“I Spy, which is housed in Newcastle’s Stephenson Building - an industrial warehouse, which used to be the headquarters of Robert Stephenson - forms part of the Design Event 06 (10th – 25th June). Now in its second year, Design Event 06 looks set to be a fantastic two weeks of exciting design orientated events. Running in venues across NewcastleGateshead, Design Event 06 features a programme which covers a broad range of mediums including graphic, interior and fashion design.
