Maximo Park at Tyneside Cinema today
An historic cinema in Newcastle will today play host to Newcastle rock quintet Maximo Park as they personally premiere their new DVD – six days ahead of its general release. The special event at Tyneside Cinema includes footage of a full live gig recorded at Brixton Academy, and a tour documentary by local filmmakers following the band’s headline slot on the 2006 NME awards tour. Tickets for the event have been selling like hot cakes, with all proceeds going towards the Tyneside Cinema Appeal. This £6.5million project aims to fund ambitious plans to restore the art-house cinema to its former glory. This includes restoring the art deco of the original 1937 building, as well as extending the roof to create two new screens. Acclaimed film director and Tyneside Cinema Patron Mike Figgis is also designing a digital film production lab which will be available for local filmmakers and for training tomorrow’s filmmakers. The premiere takes place at 8pm this evening and if you’ve been lucky enough to get a ticket then you’ll also be in for an extra special treat…. !
